An Arab on TV

What is the biggest problem of the Arabs?

Don’t go far in your thoughts…..

It is the use of Media….

It is how they choose to create their image to the others….

Let me tell you how I see US….

An Arab on TV: shouting, screaming, burning the American and Israeli flags, blaming the International Zionism of all Evil, denouncing conspiracies, praising Hizballah…

Sentences that we always hear from an Arab: We will prevail… we will never be defeated and we will never surrender….

Death doesn’t scare us ; we are ready to die, the death of a child means nothing because we can conceive 10 instead of one dead by Israelis or Americans. Death is what we wish for…Martyrdom is the best gift God can give us…

Well I always thought that the best gift God gave us was Life….but in these days…whoever can say whatever about God in the name of God…

So my friends, this is the typical Arab on TV, amazing what a camera can do to a human being…

How can anyone empathize or sympathize with such a person even if he is "right"?

God...God...God

You can’t talk about the Arab-Israeli conflict without bringing in the role of the United States…right? ... right

And because WE in the Middle East don’t know how to solve our problems by our own means… WE rely heavily on the United States to bring in peace… right? … right

So, WE have to understand what is going on in the United States to know what to expect in our REGION… right? … right

Religion and US Foreign Policy: this was the cover of the September/October Issue of the Foreign Affairs…

Page 38: ...”Evangelicals have recently returned to a position of power in US politics”…

Page 40: “For Evangelicals, the fact the Jewish people have survived through the millennia and that they have returned to their ancient home is proof that God is real, that the Bible is inspired, and that the Christian religion is true… The God of Abraham will literally bless the United States if the United States blesses Israel. They see in the weakness, defeats, and poverty of the Arab world ample evidence that God curses those who curse Israel… In standing by Israel, evangelicals feel that they are standing by God-something they are ready to do against the whole world.”

Need to say more???

You know what ?

I am not calling for God to come down and deal with this mess, because I am sure that even if God shows up…all his or her Jewish, Christian and Muslim followers will attack him or her…

WE are in the mode of Hatred in the name of God…that even if WE see God in person we will HATE him…

Blessed is the Middle East…

Arab Basic Instinct

When is it that you feel uncomfortable?
Why you feel uncomfortable towards something, whatever it is?

A few days ago I went with my husband for the premiere of “3imarat Yacoubian” the latest controversial Egyptian movie that depicts the political, social and cultural situation in Egypt and by extension in the whole Arab world…

It is a long film of about 3 hours…

3 hours of DISCOMFORT…well let me say 2 hours…because I couldn’t continue till the end…

This movie made me feel uncomfortable…I couldn’t sit straight on my chair…

You are wondering why? I asked myself the same question for the whole night…

Why?

Well, because I saw the reality of the ugliness in the Middle East…

The Middle East has become an UGLY place to live in…

Why?

Because the Middle East is being controlled by two obsessions: Religion and Sex

We will never be free, modernized, developed, creative, peaceful, and life loving until we free ourselves from these two instinctive obsessions….

Until then welcome to the Arab Basic Instinct: land of Religion and Sex

Treadmill and Peace

Beirut, My TV Room, 5:30 pm

I am watching a Lebanese movie entitled ZOZO…

Zozo a Lebanese kid loses his entire family during the Lebanese civil war, however he manages to travel to his grandparents in Sweden…

Of course the integration is not easy…especially when the kid is missing his dead mom enormously…
Craziness of war, separation, new life, and hope; these were some of the messages of the movie…Yes it made me cry…I am a mom…I felt ZOZO was my son…

Beirut, The Gym, 7:30 pm

I am on the treadmill (walking machine) walking…walking…walking…haven’t started running yet…well I am still thinking about the film…and frankly I am a bit tired…

Then I asked myself (still on the treadmill) what is the point of walking on the treadmill?
What is the point in walking…walking…walking…walking…but remaining in the same spot?

Well doesn’t that remind you of peace activists in the Middle East!!??

Then I asked myself another question: if you were on a magical treadmill where would you like this “walk” (because with all these questions my performance on the treadmill was very slow of course) to take you?

If it is really magical, I want to go to Israel…

Beirut, My TV Room, 11:14 pm

I am back to my sitting room…I am watching TV…and guess what’s on Al Arabiya…A documentary on Leila Khaled…

For my readers in Pakistan, China and… Leila Khaled was a Palestinian terrorist for the West and Israel and a Freedom fighter for the Arabs…

Same same same same same old story…our tragic story in the Middle East…

And what do I think of her? Well of course I am not telling you…

But can you understand now, my obsession with the Middle East and Peace in this spot of the world?

If your answer is NO… you don’t understand… let me tell you…BECAUSE whatever we do, wherever we look, with whomever we talk…the Israeli-Arab conflict is always present in our daily life…In the newspapers, on TV, on the streets, in the coffee shops…
