A cursed Middle East

It never crossed my mind to write a word on the events of Gaza, for the past 23 days…

Since the first week…I knew what were my options…

I either had to leave everything behind and go to Gaza to fight side by side with Hamas against the so called “new Nazis on the block”…

Or, I had to leave everything behind and go to Gaza to fight side by side with the Israeli forces against the so called “terrorists”…

But to sit in front of the TV and write on the blog…just to write…looked like an offending act…

Today, more than ever I am convinced that the Middle East has not lost its appetite for death and blood…

Peace will always be the business of the marginalized…

Peace shouldn’t be a priority…

Saving our souls…trying not to sink to the dark side of ourselves…are the priorities…in This Cursed Middle East…

I don't think all hope is lost. Acknowledgement is the key to any resolution, Obama seems to do well in this area. This conflict has four major components; land claims, religious disparity, deep resentment from past battles, and the lack of commerce between the Palestinians and the Israelis. The latter is a key component that is often underestimated. Israel by culture resisted developing a sustainable and fair commerce with the Palestinians. If Obama helps find ways to move forward on this issue and encourage both parties to stick to their word, then there is hope for a resolution. Even profound resentment can be set aside over time if both parties have mutual economic interests. Japan and China have illustrated how time and economics can heal deep wounds.
